Two Presentations at the IAI Conference
I will be making two presentations at the IAI Conference in Reno, NV this year.
One presentation will be on Gait Analysis that I will be co-presenting with Dr. Michael Nirenburg. The other will be on “Going Private” – making the transition from working for a public agency to starting your own business.
Gait Analysis:
I’m looking forward to presenting with Mike on this topic. I remember working a case while still at the Newport Beach Police Department (more than 20 years ago) in which I wondered if a person’s gait can help to include or exclude an individual in a case. It wasn’t until 2015 that I learned more when Dr. Ivan Birch held a series of workshops on Gait Analysis at the IAI Conference in Sacramento that I learned more.
Shortly after that I met, and became friends with Mike Nirenburg, and over the past several months I have been working with him and other Gait Analysts in the preparation of a Process Map for Gait Analysis that has been approved by the VITAL subcommittee of OSAC.
If you are curious about the use of gait in Forensic Video Analysis I hope you can make it to this presentation on Tuesday, August 13 at 11:15.
Going Private:
It was 20 years ago that I took an early retirement from the Newport Beach (CA) Police Department and opened Imaging Forensics. During these twenty years I have testified in courts in over a dozen states, in Federal Courts in three states plus DC, and even in an international matter in London, UK. I have also taught workshops in over 25 states, and in the following countries: Canada, England, Singapore, Hong Kong, Qatar, and Australia.
In my presentation I will discuss the way I made my transition to the private sector and the things to consider when making a similar move to help those making the move be as successful as possible. According to chamberofcommerce.org, half of all businesses fail within five years. Hopefully my presentation will help some be in the successful half of that statistic!
If you are attending the IAI Conference and plan to leave your government position within the next few years I hope you can attend my presentation on Friday, August 16 at 10:30.
